Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Azure, five closets Argent behind a buffalo head erased Proper.  Attached below the shield a Gold scroll inscribed "PACE ET BELLO PARATUS" in Black letters.

Symbolism
The shield is blue for Infantry.  The closets represent the five counties from which the organization originally recruited its personnel.  The buffalo head represents the location of the regimental headquarters - Buffalo, New York (1922).  The motto translates to "Prepared for Peace and War."

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 392d Infantry Regiment on 7 June 1926.  It was redesignated for the 392d Regiment on 21 October 1959.  The insignia was amended to include the motto and the symbolism on 28 June 1967.  It was amended to correct the symbolism on 5 June 1970.

That for the regiments and separate battalions of the Army Reserve:  On a wreath of the colors Argent and Azure the Lexington Minute Man Proper.  The statue of the Minute Man, Captain John Parker (H.H. Kitson, sculptor), stands on the Common in Lexington, Massachusetts.

Motto

PACE ET BELLO PARATUS (Prepared for Peace and War).
